Are gutters an important addition to my home?

Yes. Gutters catch water from your roof and stop it from splashing at the base of your walls, preventing siding and trim from becoming dirty or developing damage from splash back. They also direct water away from the foundation and help control erosion.

Do gutters cause ice dams?

No, but because gutters project out along the eaves, they can cause ice dams to extend further out. The problem of ice dams usually stems from insufficient roof ventilation or inadequate insulation.

I don’t want to have to clean out my gutters. What are my options?

Gutter guards can be installed to help alleviate the need to clean out gutters by blocking debris from entering the system all together. In some instances, larger gutters with wider outlets can be installed to let larger debris flow through, rather than trapping it.
